I started writing about Going Infinite about the highly autistic Sam Bankman-Fried, Alameda Research, FTX and its downfall. However, I couldn't do it justice. I recommend picking up the book and reading it for yourself. FWIW, after reading it, your pov should remain the same of "crypto is highly retarded".
Instead of going down that rabbit hole, I decided to go for a feel-good post with a little update since deciding to step away from my former profession...
Okay, so I left on April 3rd, 2024 so it's been a total of 97 days and during that time I have:
Severely reduced the stress and anxiety I was dealing with day to day by no longer making my life revolve solely around work.
Started to enjoy the week days and weekends by getting off the computer. No more days grinding away from 6am - 8 pm in the office.
Created an android emulator on a loop to get free Whataburger as many times per day, everyday... Still running, who wants it? I can't eat that shit!
Spent a considerable amount of time with friends and family. Just found out my Aunt in Oregon isn't doing so well as I type this out! Wish I spent more time with her the last 10 years. Hopeful everything turns out alright. Update: she has jaundice.
Started the overnightmomo chat. Also, breaking the community business model of 100+/month to instead a free month and then 6/month if you choose to stay. Anyone who is anybody will soon be apart of this group.
Celebrated Bryan's 30th birthday and got wayyyy to drunk, but shit happens! I know I would have found an excuse to skip it if I was still trading prop. "whoops, missed the flight, big after hours opp".
Celebrated Ashley's birthday in the city, though I skipped dinner and the night out after as I was still embarrassed from being a bit to drunk at Bryan's (worse in my head then irl...) and didn’t want to repeat that “mistake”.
Started working with the great people at Trade Ideas by running their discord server, onboarding people, and thinking through new ways that they could move away from the high churn retail issue they deal with to partnering with brokers and firms.
Started a fun weekly newsletter that I publish to every Wednesday at 5:30 pm eastern... aka, what you are reading right now. A lot of it revolves around trading, reading, my thoughts, & life. People say it's important to really have a sole focus, but that removes the uniqueness out of everyone! I want to write about what I want to write about.
Had a couple sponsored post within the weekly newsletter. Trading Calendar and Ocean One Securities were kind enough to be sponsors.
Continuing to trade, though my time in the seat has been reduced from 12-15 hour days 7 days a week to 1-2 hour days 5 days a week (most days) and performance has been solid. The focus continues to be on overnight momentum, htf over extensions, and special situations one-offs. No regrets on leaving prop.
Actively reading once more which I got away from once I started working in office. Have read: The Secret, Copywriting Secrets, Be, Million Dollar Weekend, How To Be Loved, Going Infinite, Tribes, This is Marketing, Purple Cow, Permission Marketing, and endless Bear Blogs on the discovery page over the last 97 days.
Got an offer letter to do some work with Stocktwits. Hopeful that it works out!
Have learned a considerable amount about the media/newsletter space and just how much money is in it!
Spoke to a few fintech owners about the struggles their companies deal with (often focusing on improving the product when it's already great instead of sales and fixing high churn).
Playing a considerable amount of pickleball... Why is Joey still better than me?
Decided that Missouri, NYC, and Austin can never replace the feeling I get with living in the Bay Area so no longer fighting it.
2 Tahoe trips are in the books. Found a new swimming hole (email me for directions).
Going to Yosemite from the 14th-19th after ditching it for many years to not miss "big opps".
Have met some cool and smart retail traders that I otherwise would have never come across.
Health and fitness has been solid. Longest stretch of sticking to a program. Running/walking to the gym and focusing on compound lifts (bench, shoulder press, weighted pull ups, squats) with the first exercise having the most intensity. Body is starting to change and new numbers are being hit.
Deleted instagram completely and spend very little time with short form content and on my phone.
Putting down the phone or leaving it behind when with friends and fam.
Life is good at the moment! Don't get me wrong, I still have some stress and anxiety that will randomly pop up as you can see from Monday's entry on somewordsfor.me but doesn't everybody?
